I’ve loved musicals and musical theater since I was a child. That means I grew up knowing all the words to every single song in The Sound of Music. That also means I was extremely confused the first time I heard “My Favorite Things” being played on the radio as a Christmas Carol.

Yes, the song refers to sleigh bells, woolen mittens and snowflakes that fall on my nose and eyelashes. But it also refers to white dresses. cream-colored ponies and raindrops on roses, none of  which have anything to do with winter or Christmas.

In fact, the only time I’ve seen raindrops on roses is when the weather has turned warm.

Maybe  that’s the reason I was smiling so broadly when I encountered so many raindrops on roses during a walk this week.
